We are a small school for young people who have found school hard.
Pledge2Learn is an independent special school in Scunthorpe for students aged 11 to 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs. Most of our students come to us after mainstream school has stopped working – sometimes after months at home, sometimes after an exclusion, often after a long stretch of everyone trying very hard and it still not working out.
We are not a smaller version of the school that did not work. We are a different kind of place.
Where we are
The school is based at Bottesford Town Football Club. That surprises people, and then it makes sense to them. There are no corridors, no bells, no crowds to get through. There is a pitch, a kitchen, and rooms small enough that everybody knows everybody.
For a young person who has learned to dread the school gate, walking into somewhere that does not look or sound like a school is often the first thing that goes right.
How we work
Teaching is in very small groups and can also be one-to-one where your child needs this. The environment is calm and the demands are manageable, which is not the same as expecting less – we expect a great deal, and we take the pressure out of how it gets done.
Students work towards real qualifications. They also learn to cook, to travel independently, to manage money, and to ask for help. For many of the young people we teach, those last activities matter just as much.
What Ofsted found
Ofsted inspected us in January 2025 and judged the school Good. Inspectors described a caring ethos, a personalised approach to learning, and a relaxed and informal environment. They noted that our values run right through the school.
They also told us what to improve, and we have published that too.

Come and see us
If you are wondering whether this might be the right place for your child, the best thing is to come and look. Your child does not have to come the first time. Sometimes the parent(s)/Carers(s) come and view first.
Below is a Google map of where the school site is based at Bottesford Town Football Club where there is plenty of free parking.
As you arrive on site our main school entrance is the building on the right hand side (on the Google map below it shows the main school building on the left) where you will go through the white doors. There is an accessible parking space directly outside the entrance. This entrance is directly opposite the large sports hall.
