Under the Equality Act 2010, every school must have a plan for improving access for disabled students. Ours covers three areas: the curriculum, the buildings, and information.

All of our students have varying levels of additional or special educational needs, so adjustment is what we do here. Teaching in very small groups, one-to-one time for every student, a low-arousal environment and phased timetables are all reasonable adjustments made as standard.

1. Access to the curriculum

Teaching and the curriculum is adapted for students with additional and special educational needs such as in very small groups, one-to-one time commissioned through the EHCP, work set at the student’s actual level, phased and part-time timetables, and reduced demand. Assistive technology and exam access arrangements can be implemented where needed.

2. Access to the physical environment

The whole site is accessible and all buildings have a ramped or level entry routes in and out, and there are accessible toilets. There is an accessible parking space directly outside the main entrance, which is the white doors opposite the sports hall.

3. Access to information

Information from the school is available in other formats on request, such as large print, easy read.

We strive to communicate with families in the way that is best for them; this includes, email, text, phone call and face to face meetings. We provide regular/ weekly updates in the an agreed form and we talk this through with any parent/ carer who may find it difficult to access written text.

Information can also be shared in formats that allow text-to-speech for families who find written communication difficult.
