Some of our students are in care, and some have been, which changes what they need from school and who needs to be round the table.

What Chantel does

Chantel looks after the education of our students who are in care — their learning, their attendance, how settled they are, and anything getting in the way. She is the person carers, social workers and virtual schools can ring and get a straight answer from.

Personal Education Plans

We contribute to the PEP and attend the meeting, and we will tell you what is really happening, including what is not working. Where a student also has an EHC plan, we make sure the two agree rather than pull in different directions — see Meeting EHCP outcomes.

Working with you

We would rather be in touch early and often than send a report once a term. And if a student moves home, tell us as soon as you can — travel, timings and who collects them all change with it.

Consent and permissions

For a student in care, consent for things like photographs, trips and medical treatment does not always sit with the person who brings them to school. We check who holds delegated authority for each student and record it, rather than assuming. If that changes, please tell us.

Safeguarding

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Emma Gill. Safeguarding concerns should go to her, not to the designated teacher route. Full details, including out-of-hours contacts, are on our safeguarding page.
